The Care Council is holding two events in the Wrexham Eisteddfod this year:

Tuesday, 2 August, 11am-12pm, Societies Tent 1

The journalist, Beti George, will interview Elaine Davies from Iaith, the Welsh centre for language planning about commissioned research on the experience of health and social care service users through the medium of Welsh. Friday, 5 August, 3pm-4pm, Societies Tent 2

Question and answer session chaired by Arwel Ellis Owen discussing the future of social care services in Wales. A panel of experts will discuss ‘Confidence in Care: Which direction for Wales?’  A lively session with panellists Mark Drakeford AM, chair of the health and social care committee in the Assembly, Arwel Gwynn Jones, a Wrexham Councillor, and a representative from Age Cymru.

Social care induction framework to be reviewed

The Care Council is to gather feedback as part of a review of the social care induction framework (SCIF).

Feedback will be sought at events across Wales in the autumn and inputs will contribute the development of a new SCIF to reflect changes in vocational qualifications as part of the new Qualification and Credit Framework. It will also reflect changes to National Occupational Standards and aim to be aligned with induction for early years and childcare.

The induction framework for social care provides a structured start for workers in the first 12 weeks of employment.  It outlines the knowledge new employees need to carry out their role with people, and is used by employers to ensure new workers receive the learning they need to meet expected standards.

Views sought for review of qualification framework

The Care Council will be holding an  event to gather feedback on the revision of the qualification framework for social care workers (QFSC).

The move to review the framework, originally published in 2003, comes following changes in mandatory registration of groups of social care workers; changes in vocational qualifications and revisions to some national minimum standards.

Stephanie Coleman, Qualifications and Learning Manager at the Care Council, said: “Input to the review will be sought from training managers; learning providers; employers; service users and carers to ensure the framework is consistent with the organisation and requirements of the sector,” she added.

To register your interest in the QFSC review event, please contact Stephanie Coleman by telephone on 029 2078 0668, or e-mail stephanie.coleman@ccwales.org.uk

Let us know your feedback on QCF qualifications

The Care Council are currently collecting feedback about the sectors initial thoughts on the QCF qualifications and the units that are currently being used. The feedback gathered will then be collated and used as part of the review of units over a period of time.
We would love to have your feedback on the content of the units, any gaps, spelling and grammar mistakes, any difficulties in understanding what is being asked, any issues in relation to assessment or any other comments that you may have – both positive and negative.

Social work regulator switch 'on track' despite Bill delay

Kirsty McGregor, Community Care

Planned changes to the regulation of social workers in England are "on track" despite the three-month pause in the Health and Social Care Bill, according to the transfer oversight group.

The handover of the regulation of social workers in England from the General Social Care Council to the Health Professions Council was originally planned for April 2012, as outlined in the Bill.

Chief regulator blasts single college of social work talks

Kirsty McGregor

The man charged with overseeing changes to social work regulation in England has criticised recent efforts to create a single college for the profession.

Harry Cayton, chief executive of the Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence, said he was "disappointed" by the actions of the College of Social Work and British Association of Social Workers over the past six months, after the two organisations repeatedly failed to reach an agreement that would see them merge into a single body.

Work with us

The Care Council occasionally has the opportunity to access funding to undertake specific projects or short term work; and in-turn needs to be able to call on people with experience, knowledge and expertise in specific areas to assist in this work, sometimes at short notice.

To address this in a cost effective way the Care Council is developing a pool of Associates who wish to be considered for such project work. If this is something that would be of interest you please visit http://www.ccwales.org.uk/about-us/jobs , for further information
